There is new information about the bribe that Mayor Sorin Oprescu allegedly received. Everything seems to have been generated by a loan that the mayor would have asked his former driver, now a businessman involved in transactions with the cemeteries administration director, the whistleblower of Oprescu. Cemeteries Administration Director has been under investigation by the DNA prosecutors for illegal business since March.
The former driver would have negotiated the bribe with the director of the cemetery administration, bribe that Sorin Oprescu did not know about.
The Mayor allegedly lent some money to the former driver and investigators believe that the money that he received as bribe was actually part of the bribe that the driver negotiated with the former director of cemeteries administration.
Investigators said that they could not make the flagrant for Sorin Oprescu and that they relied on the money received, but also on the interceptions.
So far, the main charges come from the director of the cemetery administration who argues that the mayor would know where the money comes from.
Sorin Oprescu has been in custody for 30 days after prosecutors found the amount of 25 thousand euros in his car and at home.
