Prime Minister Victor Ponta asked for the support of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) in the fight against tax evasion Tuesday at the institution’s meeting to present the annual report.

The Prime Minister noted that the state budget has to recover 10 billion euros, money that would cover the salaries of all civil servants, including prosecutors and judges.

The statements enhances what the DNA chief prosecutor said, Laura Codruţa Kovesi, who noted that the institution's work led to the seizure of over 310 million.

As regards the activity of DNA, Prime Minister Victor Ponta said that he congratulated them for having investigated corrupt magistrates.

"As a former prosecutor and Romanian citizen, I can only congratulate you and envy you for independence and the results you have had in 2014," said Prime Minister Victor Ponta.

Kovesi: In 2014, we registered the highest number of state officials investigated. We doubled the number of those prosecuted. I’ve requested additional staff for DNA
