The Presidential Administration announced on Friday after President Klaus Iohannis was received by His Holiness, Pope Francis, that the Pontiff gladly accepted the president’s invitation to visit Romania and the date of the visit will be agreed through diplomatic channels.
According to a press release by the Presidential Administration, President Klaus Iohannis was received in audience by His Holiness Pope Francis after he met with Cardinal Pietro Parolin, State Secretary.
"During these very cordial meetings that took place on the very anniversary of 25 years since the restoration of diplomatic relations, they addressed the topic of relations between Romania and the Holy See. Both sides expressed their satisfaction with the excellent character these relationships have had over the past 25 years.
They reconfirmed the mutual interest in the further development of dialogue and bilateral cooperation, focusing on areas such as the promotion of religious freedom, interreligious dialogue and combating fundamentalism. There was also an exchange of views on topical international issues, "the release reads.
