President Klaus Iohannis sent, on Sunday, on the World Press Freedom Day, a message in which he shows that the role of the mass media is essential in defending public interest, Agerpres reports.
"A free press contributes to consolidating democracy and developing a prosperous society. For this right we fought in 1989, and the role of mass media is essential in defending public interest. The World Press Freedom Day reminds us how important the freedom of speech is," Iohannis wrote on Facebook.
He attached to this post a photo with a typewriter and the message "There is no democracy without freedom of the press."
On December 23, 1993, the UN General Assembly declared May 3 as the World Press Freedom Day.
