 Princess Margareta and Prince Radu received the title of honorary citizens of Cluj Sunday, in a ceremony held in the Maximum Auditorium of Babes-Bolyai University, Cluj being the first in the country to offer such a title of honor to the two members of the Royal House, Agerpres announces.
The titles awarding took place at an event attended by the local authorities and several hundred people. During the ceremony, the audience could hear a Royal Gala Concert specially organized for the moment, with the participation of Transylvania State Philharmonic.

The decision to grant the titles of honorary citizens of Cluj to the two members of the Royal House was initiated by Vice President in charge of the County Council, Istvan Vakar. The decision was passed unanimously at the first meeting of the county court in January 2015. Vakar Istvan recalled Sunday that the titles of “Honorary citizen of Cluj' 'have been granted to their Royal Highnesses in gratitude for everything that the Royal family did for Transylvania and Cluj ".
'The County Council awarded the title of Honorary Citizen -' Honorary Citizens of Cluj ' to their Royal Highnesses Princess Margareta and Prince Radu in gratitude for all that the Royal family have done for Transylvania and Cluj. Princess Margaret was awarded the title for her uninterrupted activity of 25 years of serving and promoting the European and Euro-Atlantic interests of Romania and for her active involvement in the public life of Cluj County and for supporting the social, academic, cultural activity of the city. Prince Radu received the title for his involvement and support of common cultural and educational activities in Cluj county during the last quarter of a century, " Vakar said.
In his turn, Prince Radu stressed that it is a great honor to become honorary citizens of a city so loved by the members of the Royal House.
'We owe this honor to King Ferdinand and Queen Mary. They loved Cluj just as much as King Charles II and their Majesties King Michael and Queen Anne have loved it too. For the past two years we have come to Cluj every year and we tried to tie our names to the most diverse projects, for the county’s heritage and education. We hope that from now on we will find many more opportunities to contribute to the building of this construction that your unpaired city makes under our eyes, "said Prince Radu.
Along with Princess Margareta and Prince Radu, the Sunday event was attended also by Prince Nicholas, the Archduchess Maria Magdalena of Austria and Baron Johannes von Holzhausen.


The ceremony was also attended by the chancellor of the 'Babeș-Bolyai' University(UBB) Cluj-Napoca, Ioan Aurel Pop, mayor Emil Boc, prefect Gheorghe Ioan Vușcan, UDMR president, Kelemen Hunor, as well as many members of the academia, businessmen and commoners



Princess Margareta and Prince Radu performed on this occasion, a two-day visit in Cluj-Napoca, in which they set meetings with representatives of county and local authorities, representatives of the high clergy, academics, diplomats, representatives of the business environment and of the youth in Cluj.

Sunday, the two members of the Royal House visited the Orthodox Metropolitan Cathedral and the Greek Catholic Cathedral which the community has been building in Cluj-Napoca. They also visited the Central Park of Cluj-Napoca, one of the oldest areas of the city promenade which has recently been refurbished with EU funds.
In the afternoon, the book 'Margaret, the testimony of a quarter century royal', written by Sandra Gătejeanu-George was launched.

The visit will continue Monday with a series of meetings with officials, academics and businessmen from Cluj
