Professor Dan Voiculescu is sounding the alarm over dramatic drop in birth rates. The number of newborns has halved in the last 25 years.
The ratio of pensioners to employees is worrying. If the active population in 1990 was almost three times the number of pensioners, currently in Romania the number of employees nearly equaled that of retirees.
In the past 25 years, the number of newborns halved.
"Last year the number of children under 18 was of 3 million, as compared to about 6 million recorded in 1990. According to the National Institute of Statistics in 1990 315,000 children were born, while in 2013, 180,000 children were born, "writes Dan Voiculescu on his personal blog.
