Update 17.50 – The mayor of Constanţa, Radu Mazăre, was brought into the City Police custody Thursday afternoon, after the supreme court decided to place him in remand in the case file he is accused of having taken a 9 million euros bribe from the companies he supported to obtain permits and authorizations.

Mazăre will stay in the arrest of the city police until a decision is made about the place where he will spend the rest of his remand, according to  Mediafax.
The supreme court ruled their final decision Thursday ordering that the mayor of Constanţa, Radu Mazăre, be place in a 30 days remand in the case file in which he is accused of having taken a nine million euros bribe from companies he supported in obtaining permits and in being awarded public services contracts in tenders.

In the same case file, businessman Sorin Strutinsky has also been issued another arrest warrant, although he is in prison serving time in another case file.

The mayor of Constanta was detained for 24 hours on March 16th by the prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA) on three counts of bribery, abuse of office, if the official has obtained for himself or for another person an undue advantage, and conflict of interest (two counts), according to a press release.
Also, anticorruption prosecutors ordered the initiation of criminal proceedings against businessman Sorin Strutinsky, currently imprisoned in another case file, for committing three crimes of complicity in bribery.
According to investigators, during the period 2006 - 2009, Radu Mazăre, with the help of Strutinsky, requested and received two million euros from the representatives of the two companies in order to facilitate the issuance of the planning documents necessary for the construction of malls in Constanta.

The amounts of money were transferred in the form of fictitious advertising contracts concluded by that company representatives with a company controlled by Mazăre, both directly and through Strutinsky, prosecutors argue.

Mazăre is also accused that during 2008 - 2014, also with the help of Strutinsky he received from a company, more than seven million euros for ensuring that that company will be awarded the contract in a tender organized by the Municipality to delegate the management of city sanitation service.

Mayor Radu Mazăre is being investigated by the DNA in several case files.
