Romanians struggled to put up with the highest temperatures of the year. On Wednesday, the highs reached 40 degrees Celsius in two counties in western Romania, where a Red Alert Code was sounded by meteorologists.
Another 18 counties were under an Orange Code of excessive heat.
The stifling atmosphere will further engulf the southern and eastern parts of the country today. Fortunately, tomorrow will bring the much-awaited rains!
