By May 2015, the Association for supporting multidrug-resistant TB patients (ASPTMR) is developing the project "Support for adherence to treatment of multidrug-resistant TB patients." In the campaign to support patients, social packages containing food and hygiene items will distributed.
Every year in our country tuberculosis causes more than 1,100 deaths. Multidrug-resistant tuberculosis patients are often diagnosed late, and many of them do not receive full treatment and social and professional assistance. Millions of Romanians are exposed to tuberculosis and risk to develop the disease because the population is poorly informed about this condition and the means of infection.
Romania is the country the most affected by tuberculosis in the European Union. Treatment of this disease takes about two years and consists of daily administration of oral and injectable treatments in the first eight months, then continued by oral treatments.
