First Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans said on Thursday that the Mechanism for Cooperation and Verification (MCV) for Romania will be maintained, the Commission being encouraged to continue monitoring because it enjoys "very strong support" among public opinion in the country, Mediafax reports.
Frans Timmermans said Thursday before the LIBE Committee of the EP, that, according to surveys, there is a "very strong support" for MCV among the public opinion in Romania.
"For me personally, but also for the EC in general, it is an encouragement to continue to maintain this tool", said the first Vice –president of the European Commission, recalling that the Cooperation and Verification Mechanism was set up upon the EU accession to resolve the problems existing at the time.
He also said that Romania has made "considerable progress", including during the Ponta government, but there are still things to do.
