Romanian food is getting increasingly popular with foreigners. Therefore Romania has been selling more food products abroad. After many years when the trade balance was in the red zone, in 2013 exports exceeded imports by €300 million.

Foreigners want Romanian food. Last year Romania sold abroad food products worth over five billion. The amount of imports, however, was only 4.7 billion. That’s why as of 2013, the trade surplus in food products was 324 million euro. While 2012 showed a deficit of 745 million.

Wheat is the main product exported. In 2013, the quantity of wheat going across the border has doubled since 2012.

Next in the top, there follow corn and sunflower seeds. Sunflower oil, Romanian sheep and goat were also successful abroad. In 2013, Romania sold livestock amounting to 150 million euros.

We are exporting large quantities of poultry, sugar, honey and cheese.

As for imports, the top imported product is pork. Last year we imported 150,000 tons of pork, with just 6000 tons less than compared to 2012.
