Last week he won the grand prize at a fair in the United States, the International Science and Technology Fair. And now, back home, he has received the appreciation of his hometown authorities: they have appointed him an honorary citizen of the city of Râmnicu Vâlcea and of the Valcea county
Ionut Budişteanu received a plaque and a prize of RON 10,000 from the County Council after winning the grand prize "Gordon E. Moore" in the "computer science" competition.
"Over the last 20 years no other European has managed to win the grand prize in the contest. It was a great honor for me to win for Ramnicu Valcea, as Romanian, as European," the young man who brought Romania in the attention of the world, said.
Three years ago, Ionut Budişteanu was remarked by Dan Voiculescu foundation. He has proven since, over and over again, that the scholarship he has received was an investment in intelligence
"Ionut Budişteanu is 16 and specializes in software and algorithms (...) The programs were designed to help students when they have to learn abstract concepts such as neural networks or computer algorithms. He has created programs that can be used for computer remote access useful in monitoring a child or which have the ability to recognize handwriting, faces and voices. Another project he has worked on is used to locate stolen computers "- Dan Voiculescu wrote in 2010 on his blog.
Meanwhile, Ionut’s successes have brought him international recognition.
The famous Massachusetts Institute of Technology announced that they had decided to name an asteroid with Ionut Budişteanu’s name. But that does not make him want to leave the country.
