Romanian students got GOLD, SILVER AND BRONZE medals at the International Physics Olympiad of Asian countries

Romanian students won seven medals - three gold and two silver and bronze - and a mention at the International Olympiad of Physics of Asian countries / APHO 2015 held between 3 and 11 May at Hangzhou, China.

Present for the second time as special guest at the International Physics Olympiad of Asian countries, the Romanian team won seven medals (three gold medals, two silver medals and two bronze medals) and a statement, according to a statement posted on the website of the Ministry of Education.


The silver medalists of 2014, Dan Ştefan Eniceicu ( XI), Tudor Costel Creţu (XI) and Cristian Alexandru Frunză (XII) now won the gold medals. The silver medals were obtained by Ileana Rugină (XII) – mention at the previous edition - and Andrei Răduc (XII), and the bronze medals went to Gabriel Găitan (XII) and Mălin Stănescu (XI). Ovidiu Mihai Popa (XI) was awarded a mention.


All eight students’ winners are attending the International Computer High School of Bucharest.

Olympics preparation was provided by Rodica Ionescu and Delia Davidescu teachers and others who took part in the training session and selection, from both educational institutions and the physical faculties of Bucharest, Iasi, Craiova and Cluj-Napoca.


Now on its sixteenth edition, the competition is exclusively meant for the Asian continent states, Romania is the only country outside Europe, invited to participate in recognition and appreciation of the outstanding results obtained each year at the International Physics Olympiad.

The Romanian delegation was headed by teachers Delia Davidescu (International Computer High School of Bucharest) and Sebastian Popescu (assoc. Prof. and Dean of the Faculty of Physics of the University "Al. I. Cuza" in Iasi).
