Romanians' Easter travel habits have changed form the pervious years, with the Romanians returning home on Easter having generated a 500-percent surge in sales of tickets for incoming flights to the country compared with a typical time of the year.
Unlike the previous years, when Romanians would fly from Romania to various European destinations on the short Easter holiday for city breaks or longer visits, the significant move reported for this year by Vola.ro is of Romanians returning from abroad for Easter by plane. Most of the incoming flights have been from places with large Romanian communities, such as Italy, Spain and the UK as well as the US and Canada.
According to the Vola.ro research, the price of an incoming flight to Romania is 18 percent higher that the price for outgoing flights. The Romanians overseas have paid 275 euros on the average for their plane tickets bringing them home, compared with an average 230 euros, as paid by Romanians going abroad for this Easter. Very high demand, coupled with a limited number of places has exhausted the tickets at promotional prices and lower class tickets.
In the case of Romanians who have decided to spend Easter abroad, most of them opted for city breaks to the detriment of longer visits. Their preferred period is April 29 returning May 2, the second day of Easter. Highest in demand foreign destinations were Rome, Milan, London, Barcelona, Madrid and Paris. The average price for a city break trip on Easter 2016 was 490 euro, up from 470 euros one year previously.
