Foreign Minister Bogdan Aurescu welcomes the Moldovan government's decision to allow access of Romanian citizens in the Republic of Moldova based on their identity cards, not just passports as it used to be.

"This measure is a clear political signal of Moldova’s commitment towards its European path, a concrete tool to encourage contacts and exchanges between citizens living over the Prut river and in the European Union, including Romania and support the neighboring state connection to the European Union, "Aurescu said in a statement of the Foreign Ministry, Mediafax informs.

The topic of access facilitation of EU citizens, including Romanians on the neighboring state territory with the identity card, was raised by Minister Bogdan Aurescu during the meeting of March 25, 2015 in Bucharest with President of the Moldovan Parliament, Andrian Candu, MAE says.

"I extend special thanks to the Moldovan authorities in Chişinău for this decision which supports strengthening the links between citizens of the two sides and the durability reconfirming the Strategic Partnership between our countries," the Romanian Minister said.

The Moldovan government adopted on Tuesday the Resolution No. 63/2015 which amends the existing legislative framework regarding the documents needed to allow foreign citizens access into the Republic of Moldova.

Therefore, the unilateral facilities granting for EU citizens is provided who will be able to enter the Republic of Moldova based on their national identity cards. The measure will take effect from the date of its publication in the Official Gazette of the Republic of Moldova.
