Deputy Sebastian Ghita was indicted Wednesday by prosecutors of the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA), in the case file in which he is charged of having given Badescu a home as bribe to receive funding from the local budget for the Asesoft Basket Club Association.
Sebastian Ghita is charged with bribery, money laundering and incitement to office abuse resulting in obtaining an undue advantage for another, offenses that allegedly occurred in 2013, reads a release of the DNA.
Iulian Badescu, the mayor of Ploiesti at the time the crimes were committed was indicted for bribery and power abuse resulting in the obtaining of an undue advantage for another. Currently Badescu is in custody in another case.
"During 2013, the defendant Iulian Badescu, as mayor of Ploiesti as main authorizing expenditures officer, in violation of the law, instigated by Aurelian Sebastian Ghita has awarded to a sports club, supported by the latter, an additional grant from the local budget in the amount of 1,500,000, which has both harmed the territorial administrative unit and represented an undue advantage obtained by this association, "reads the prosecutors indictment.
For the allocation of that amount, Badescu requested and received from Sebastian Ghita, through a company controlled by the latter, a building (dwelling house) located in Ploiesti, worth 1,041,600 lei, of which Iulian Bădescu personally paid only 124,000 lei, DNA prosecutors argue.
"In order to alleviate suspicions about the fraudulent acquisition mode, the building was subject to an alleged bilateral promise of sale and purchase, completed in August 2013 between two companies controlled by the two defendants," reads the indictment.
The prosecutors say that during the period of September 2013 - January 2014, Ghita concealed the origin of the building’s acquisition by conducting payments from the account of a company controlled by him into the accounts of a company managed by defendant Iulian Badescu.
Then, the money was transferred to another company controlled by Ghita Bădescu, thus explaining the payment of the value of the building given as bribe.
