The Social Democrats will hold an extraordinary Congress on October the 11th, when they will elect the new Party Board and outline the policy for striking alliances. Liviu Dragnea proposed that the president should be elected two days earlier, on October the 9th, for the vote to be validated at the Congress. Dragnea says that the Social Democrats will stick to the difficult procedure under which the party leader is elected by all its members. The decision to hold a Congress in October came after the regional branches of the party insisted that a legitimate president be elected sooner, so as to be able to focus on measures to organise the local and parliamentary elections scheduled for next year.
