Sorin Oprescu was suspended from the mayor position due to the final arrest decision, the temporary suspension order was issued by the prefect and was sent to the General Council of Bucharest to appoint an acting mayor of Bucharest.
The Prefect, Paul Petrovan issued Tuesday, the order stating the suspension of the mandate of mayor Sorin Oprescu, the institution announced in a press release.
The order for the suspension from office of Sorin Oprescu was issued after the Bucharest Court of Appeal communicated by fax to the Bucharest Prefecture that on September 6 the arrest of the mayor was ordered and that the measure became final on September 14, after rejecting as unfounded the appeal submitted by Sorin Oprescu.
The Capital prefect said that the suspension order was communicated to Oprescu.
Following the decision to suspend Sorin Oprescu from office, the Bucharest Municipality General Council should meet in open session immediately to choose an acting mayor, from the two deputy mayors of the capital - Cornel Pieptea (PNL) şi Dan Darabont (PSD).
