The Romanian Intelligence Service (SRI) informed Saturday, in a statement, that the Islamic State Group followers have favorite travel routes from Western Europe to Syria-Iraq either air routes, transiting countries in the proximity of the conflict area or land routes including Romania and / or Bulgaria.
"So far, although our country has faced a low level of threat caused by this phenomenon, we find that there are premises to accelerate developments and thus increase risks. According to the latest assessment, various extremist groups are involved in the conflict area, more than 4,000 fighters, citizens or residents of European countries, " the SRI reads.
"Under the circumstances, marked by phenomenon dynamics and its consequences at national and European level, SRI and the institutions within the National System for the Prevention and Combating of Terrorism (NSPCT) shall endeavor to preserve state security, enhancing operational cooperation, including with the partner structures in allied countries. Among the internal measures adopted we count the appropriate calibration of informative devices and of the capacity to react preventively , "the SRI statement reads.
The SRI statement comes in the framework of the British Foreign Minister statements, Philip Hammond, on transit through Romania to / from Syria of some people involved in the conflict in the region.
"First of all, it's a sort of subtle request for SRI to adopt sooner the Big Brother Law," the director of the "Meeting Point", Radu Tudor said, in a telephone intervention on Antena 3.
"It is absolutely obvious to everyone that, geographically, Romania has always represented a transit point for citizens of the Middle East to Central Europe. These has happened for 40-50 years. Developments have become more dramatic" Radu Tudor said.
However, Radu Tudor has pointed out that, at least for now, Romania is involved in this phenomenon as a transit point. And it is very important to remain so "lest these fundamentalist elements should remain in the country," Radu Tudor said.
