Both son in laws of President Traian Basescu are engaged in shady business, with a criminal hue, INCOME newspaper journalists found. In the shadow of the people who served as their shields, the husband of Elena Basescu and his mother, Sidonia Ionescu gained nearly 6 million euro engaging in with a character who has been involved in dubious restitutions. The latest entrant into the family, Radu Pricop the husband of Ioana Basescu, has won over 1.7 million euro in estate restitutions all along the same person.
The in law of president Băsescu, Sidonia Ionescu and her son – Elena Băsescu’s husband have been doing business with Gheorghe Gabriel, a character who has made fast millions of euros from compensations payments. He bought litigations rights in 9 case files dealing with restitutions and in 8 of them he managed to get tens of million in compensations. All that while regular citizens would wait years for a settlement in similar case files.
With the money he got from the state, Gheorghe Gabriel bought some shares from the Ionescu family and paid a few million euros. The shares came from the same company that appeared in the statement of assets of Adriean Videanu, which he said was bankrupt. After the company was listed in the property fund, the shares value skyrocketed.
Another restitution business, just as shady, involved the other son in law of president Basescu, Radu Pricop, the husband of Ioana. He is already criminally investigated in a litigations rights case file concerning the restitution of the land that used to belong to the Bratianu family. He made 1,7 million lei, along the same Gheorghe Gabriel.
