"In Romania, one of the most beautiful forested areas in Europe, the Carpathians area shrinks piece by piece. Some deforestations are illegal and timber arrives, in the form of parquet or pallets in Germany "- this is how an investigation of Antena 3 begins about the country deforestation , Der Spiegel reports.

The numbers indicate that plots amounting to the size of three football fields disappear every hour.

The Government considers that foresters steal about 4 million cubic meters of wood per year, which means the size of one and a half of the Keops pyramid, writes Der Spiegel about the Schweighofer mob and the deforestation of Romania's virgin forests.

The investigation by the "Premiere" team about the plunder being committed over the forests of Romania and the illegal deed of big wood processing companies is another topic taken over by the foreign media after the scandal involving the ex president’s brother

Minister of Environment Graţiela Gavrilescu, announced recently that a control by the Ministry will be conducted at the company Holzindustrie Schweighofer , seeking to verify the legality of the purchase of the wood cut from forests by the company, which operates four timber processing plants in Radauti, Sebes, Siret and Comăneşti.

The Forest Code is reviewed by Parliament at the request of President Klaus Johannis. The Senate rejected the amendments requested by the review and passed the law in its original version.
The draft Forest Code will be up for debate in the Chamber of Deputies Committee Tuesday, and PSD maintains its position to adopt a Code to prevent and punish illegal logging and monopoly, Prime Minister Victor Ponta stated.

Mugur Ciuvică, Chairman of the Political Investigations (GIP), was optimistic that this destructive phenomenon will decrease in intensity.
"I’d hope that this destructive phenomenon will decrease in intensity," Ciuvică said Monday on the Daily Summary on Antena 3.

Moreover, the GIP chairman also believes that the head of DNA, Laura Codruţa Kovesi will not approach a "mega-Austrian businessman", given that the Austrians were supported by the Embassy of Austria in Romania for 12-13 and by our governments.
