Traian Băsescu’s name appears in the motivation of Dr. Yassin’s arrest. Mohamad Yassin, arrested for allegedly demanded money for the release of Omar Hayssam, claimed he had a close relationship with former President Traian Basescu, the arrest motivation decision reads.
The motivation shows that since the time of the first meeting with the two whistleblowers, in 2014, they have been talking about Mohamad Yassin’s "alleged close relationship with TB", judicial sources stating that TB is Traian Basescu. This relationship “went sour" because of the alienation of real estate properties based on proxies that Omar Hayssam would have sent to Yassin.
"Although defendant T.F. claimed in the prosecutor's statement that he did not know who it was about, the denouncing witness states explicitly that is about ... T. B", the motivation reads.
Mohamad Yassin, involved in the case of the Romanian journalists kidnapping, has been taken into custody in a case in which he is accused of influence peddling. Yassin has been arrested following a denunciation made by Omar Hayssam. Hayssam claims that Yassin asked two million euros to influence judges in his favor.

Yassin is a close friend of Traian Basescu and was involved in the negotiations for the release of the Romanian journalists kidnapped in Iraq.
Băsescu I gave Yassin a trading facility in 2004
The link between Traian Basescu and Dr. Yassin was highlighted by a document presented by the Political Investigation Group, which proves that Yassin and Basescu had been collaborating since 2004, some good months before the journalists kidnapping .
In October 2004, Mayor Traian Basescu gave a trading facility of about 600 sqm to Dr. Mohamad Yassin friend and business partner of Omar Hayssam. Dr. Yassin received this space for his company, International Medical Center Company SRL.
Dr. Mohamad Yassin was the official envoy of President Traian Basescu in the negotiations with the kidnappers of the Romanian journalists. Without having any official capacity, Dr. Yassin attended the journalists investigations after they were back in the country and the investigation of Omar Hayssam.
Also, Omar Hayssam would convey through Yassin, messages from jail to president Traian Băsescu.
Yassin Mohamad is the one who took over most of the estate that belonged to Omar Hayssam after the latter was accused of terrorism.
In July 2005, during the press conference on which he presented the journalists "kidnaping film ", Băsescu stated that Yassin Mohamad " is the honorable beneficiary of the transferred estate of Omar Hayssam".
