UPDATE 19.55 – Prosecutor Emilian Eva was placed under preventive arrest for 30 days in a case file being charged with several crimes among which money laundering, bribery and forged statements.
The decision of the High Court is not final and can be challenged by the magistrate. The measure is enforceable, however, which is why the prosecutor in Iasi will be imprisoned.
Accused that he would have earned over 300,000 euros from illegal trade with works of art, Emilian Eva maintains he is innocent and has not sold any painting. Eva said he bought the paintings as a hobby and used his own money.
"The paintings that do not appear in my statement of assets are of a friend’s who wanted to make an investment. We have not sold any painting. Where's the money? There is absolutely no painting sold," said Emilian Eva, after the expiry of the custody order.
The prosecutor explained also his daughter’s involvement in the paintings business, showing that she had received two paintings as gift which she sold at an auction.
"My father suffered four strokes. My brother was a university colleague of that doctor, he asked him at one point, he came and assisted. (...) I had nothing to claim from. He did the job, as I did my job in the solution that I gave you. And I will be accountable for it, "said Emilian Eva when asked by journalists about his arrangements with doctor Dan Tesloianu.
In addition, the prosecutor complained about the way in which his DNA colleagues treated him about whom he said that they displaced a hateful behavior.
