NATO Secretary General, Anders Fogh Rasmussen, will visit Romania, on May 15-16, while the U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden will travel to Romania and Cyprus on May 20-23.
NATO Secretary General Anders Fogh Rasmussen will make a visit to Romania, from May 15 to 16, official sources said, quoted by Mediafax.
During the visit, Anders Fogh Rasmussen will be received by President Traian Basescu, the NATO Secretary General will also meet with Prime Minister Victor Ponta and with Foreign Minister Titus Corlăţean the cited sources reported.
Approaching the end of his term in the office, Anders Fogh Rasmussen is making visits to several European states in this period.
The U.S. Vice-President Joseph Biden, will make visits to Romania and Cyprus on 20-23 May, mainly to discuss the crisis in Ukraine, the White House announced.
During this mini tour, "Vice President Biden will discuss with leaders of the two countries about the international community's response to Russia's military intervention in Ukraine and about Moscow’s illegal and destabilizing actions", the U.S. presidency stated, Mediafax reports.
"Vice President Biden will also discuss the need to deepen economic ties" with Romania and the Republic of Cyprus, especially within the framework of the US-EU free trade, currently under negotiation, the White House continues.
In Bucharest, Vice President Biden will meet with President Traian Basescu and Prime Minister Victor Ponta.J. Biden, who will conduct the visits together with his wife Jill, will meet with representatives of the civil society, as well as with Romanian and American troops.
The U.S. Vice President will highlight Washington's commitment for the collective security of NATO members and will thank Romania for its contributions to regional and global security.
President Traian Basescu stated on Monday that he had invited U.S. Vice President Joseph Biden to come to Romania, saying that the Pentagon chief would come too, but he would not say when the visit was planned, because it was decided that the announcement would be made simultaneously with the White House. "I made an invitation to Vice President Biden to come to Romania, I proposed a date, but we decided release simultaneously the announcements related to this visits," said the president.
Traian Băsescu did not want to state when the visit was planned, adding that it was a " security matter”, but he did mention the chief of the pentagon would be coming too.
