The trial of torturer Alexandru Vişinescu will start on September 24. The term was set by the Court of Appeal. The sisters of Corneliu Coposu were subpoenaed for the trial and their testimonies will be heard.
Aurora Dumitrescu, former political prisoner and Nicoleta Eremia, wife of former General Ion Eremia imprisoned in the Ramnicu Sarat Penitentiary are the civil parties they will be heard from the first term.
Vişinescu, now aged 89, is accused of crimes against humanity. The classification of his crime was changed because the new Penal Code no longer provides the crime of genocide.
The torturer is charged with the deaths of several prisoners during the time he served as prison commander of the Rāmnicu Sarat prison. Among the victims of Vişinescu there was also the Peasant Party leader, Ion Mihalache.
