The UDMR leaders have finished the bill on territorial autonomy, but they will not submit it to the Government, said Kelemen Hunor. However, the bill will be open for public debate soon.

Kelemen Hunor appreciated that a new Constitution is needed for such a project to stand a chance of being adopted.

"The autonomy project is done, I can let you know that. We have ongoing internal discussions and when we finish this discussions, we will present it, " Kelemen Hunor said, stating that it is not a matter of the coalition or of the Government, but strictly of the UDMR.

"The bill is ready, it is written, next there will be a broad and profound public debate. I said that nor this project nor other similar projects, without amending the Constitution, but I'm talking about a new Constitution, stand no chance of being adopted, " UDMR President said, quoted by Mediafax.

Hunor said that "as the Constitutional Court has read the proposed amendment to the Constitution, Romania would need a new constitution, in the medium term, not today or in 2015, not even in 2016."

"In the 2016 elections, we should all convey this message (...) There is no point in patching the Constitution amendment, we must think of a new project," Kelemen added.
