At 76 years of age, the richest man in Romania is pondering about his legacy. So he seems to have made up his mind: Ion Ţiriac will donate his entire fortune to charity.

And it's not just any fortune, but a real financial empire worth more than one billion euros. The beneficiary will not be one of his children but a charitable foundation.

The former tennis player now aged 76 rarely makes his voice heard, but when he gives interviews he manages to surprise us, especially when speaking about his fortune. But, as he recently told the Capital magazine, he might be willing to give it all to a charitable foundation.

And his fortune is sizeable indeed: 1.2 billion euros, according to the Forbes 500. Ion Ţiriac has become the richest Romanian citizen again, after making the largest business transaction in Romania. He sold his controlling stake in the bank that bore his name, estimated at almost one billion euro.

His car dealerships have stagnated over the past few years, but he still owns four showrooms. The one in Otopeni is the biggest in the country and shelters an impressive collection of luxury cars.

Ion Ţiriac has also invested hundreds of millions of euros into one exclusive residential complex or two. However, the investment dearest to his heart is the ATP 1,000 tennis tournament in Madrid, which has enjoyed the participation of the best players in the world in the past couple of years. Except for Novak Djokovic, that is!
