Today marks two years after the return of President Basescu to Cotroceni Palace, after the Constitutional Court judges trampled on the votes of 7.4 million Romanians.

After 52 days in which he was suspended, the President resumed office thanks to the six judges who decided that quorum was not achieved in the referendum. Resuming office as the illegitimate President , Basescu was welcomed at the time by Sen. Ioan Ghişe who started a protest movement around the Cotroceni Palace.

Traian Basescu has lost his legitimacy due to the overwhelming number of ballots cast on July 29, 2012 and he came back to Cotroceni as a president illegal and illegitimate. 7, 4 million citizens voted for Basescu's dismissal, the final decision should have belonged to the people, not the judges of the Constitutional Court.

Constitutional Court judges ruled that Basescu's impeachment referendum was invalid because the attendance quorum was not met. Although the documents issued by the National Institute of Statistics showed that the number of citizens entitled to vote was a little over 16 million, CCR refused to consider the INS figures, and the 7.4 million votes were not enough. The Court announced it invalidated the referendum on August 21.

The decision was taken by 6 votes in favour of Traian Basescu resuming his office from Cotroceni and 3 votes against.

So, after the 2012 referendum , Romanians were left with a ousted president, but still holding office.
