Prosecutor General of Romania brings forth additional details showing that Basescu laundered money. In a document demanding the reopening of the case Basescu -Căşuneanu, Tiberiu Nitu shows that the former president bought the land of 3,700 square with cash.
However, Basescu has always claimed that the transaction was legal and made by bank transfer.
The ordinance whereby Romania's general prosecutor asks for the file reopening of the file in which former President Traian Basescu is accused of money laundering was presented exclusively by Mihai Gadea on the Daily Summary show.
The ordinance forwarded by the General Prosecutor shows several irregularities in the land purchase by Traian Basescu , at a price 4 times lower than that paid by businessman Costel Căşuneanu for a land equal in size, taken from the same vendor, the same day. While Basescu said that all legal transactions were made through bank transfer, the Prosecutor General of Romania shows that the land would have been paid with cash, a possible argument that would prove the money laundering.
The Prosecutor General ordinance was based on a report of the National Office for Preventing and Combating Money Laundering. Tiberiu Nitu asked for the reopening of the file and the hearing of those involved.
In 2000, the former president, the then mayor of Bucharest, and businessman Costel Căşuneanu bought from the same owner one plot of 3,700 sqm in a well rated Bucharest neighborhood. Basescu then paid a price 4 times lower than Căşuneanu, and two years later he sold it to the businessman’s sister. The former president used the money from the deal with Căşuneanu to buy a villa in Otopeni, which he donated it to his daughter, Ioana Basescu.
În anul 2000, fostul preşedinte, pe atunci primar al Capitalei, şi omul de afaceri Costel Căşuneanu au cumpărat de la acelaşi proprietar câte un teren de 3.700 de mp în cartierul Primăverii din Capitală. Băsescu a plătit atunci un preţ de 4 ori mai mic decît Căşuneanu, pentru ca doi ani mai tîrziu să îl vîndă cumnatei omului de afaceri. Fostul preşedinte a folosit banii din afacerea cu Căşuneanu pentru a cumpăra o vilă în Otopeni, pe care a donat-o apoi fiicei sale, Ioana Băsescu.
