UPDATE. The nephew of former President Traian Basescu, Dragos Basescu will be investigated under judicial control on bail, in the case in which he is suspected that he asked a million euro from business man Sandu Staicu, promising to intervene to DIOCT for the favorable resolution of a case file.

Dragos Basescu's lawyer, Cristian Ene, said Wednesday while exiting the DNA that Basescu's nephew is suspected of " possible offenses of influence pedaling".

He added that Dragos Basescu gave a statement to investigators and tried to convince the DNA of his innocence. Following the hearing, investigators decided that he should be investigated under judicial control on bail.
The lawyer noted that the amount Dragoş Băsescu paid was 10,000 lei and that he will continue to appear before investigators whenever summoned to do so.

Dragos Basescu did not want to make any statement.

Dragos Basescu , Traian Basescu's brother's son, Mircea Basescu, was brought to the DNA. He is accused of influence peddling.

Antena 3 reporter, Ana Maria Roman, explained:

"We're talking about allegations of influence peddling in connection with the request by a businessman, investigated by DIOCT, of the sum of one million euros, for a DIOCT appeal to be dismissed by the HCCJ magistrates.

That person from whom the amount was required would be Sandu Stoica, a person detained by DIICOT prosecutors on 10 March 2014. The man was contacted by several people who led him to Dragoş Băsescu. They would have met at the club owned by Dinu Pescariu where the conversation should allegedly took place.

Dragos Basescu allegedly showed Staicu a list of the companies and information from the case file he had at DIOCT, to show that he had access to the file and he asked the amount of one million euros not to be arrested by DIOCT. The amount should have been disguised into a consultancy contract. "

Contacted by Antena 3 team, Mircea Basescu, the father of Dragos Basescu explained that he did not know what it was about and he learned about his son’s problems with the DNA from TV.
