UPDATE - Darius Vâlcov left the DNA headquarters a while ago. The former minister was taken by the police van and will be placed in remand.

The Supreme Court decided to place the former minister of Finance Darius Vâlcov in remand, in the case file in which he is accused of influence peddling. Vâlcov had allegedly intervened, while he was mayor of Slatina, in awarding some public procurement service contracts to a certain businessman.

The High Court for Cassation and Justice sustained the DNA prosecutors appeal to the decision of March 26, whereby it was decided to investigate Vâlcov on house arrest in the case file in which he is accused of influence peddling.

Magistrates have decide that Vâlcov should be placed in reprimand for 23 days, between April 2 to 24 .

The Supreme court considered on Wednesday DNA request for the reprimand of the former Finance Minister, Darius Vâlcov and Thursday the judges’ decision was announced and this is final.

The former Minister of Finance has been on house arrest since March 26, after the judge of rights and freedoms from the High Court of Cassation and Justice denied the DNA prosecutors’ request for the reprimand of Vâlcov.

The Senate’s plenum approved Wednesday the second request submitted by the DNA to approve the detention and remand in the case of Darius Vâlcov, being registered 106 votes "in favor and " and 29 "against".

DNA requested the Senate on March 24 the new endorsement for the arrest of Vâlcov, who is suspected of having used the information obtained when he served as mayor, senator and minister to support a real estate register company, and accounting company and a legal practice. Prosecutors argue that these companies were owned by Vâlcov, but they were managed by brokers.

Prosecutors of the National Anti-Corruption Directorate charged Darius Vâlcov with influence peddling after he had intervened when he was mayor of Slatina, in the award of contracts to a businessman who would have promised to give him 20 percent of the proceeds.
According to DNA, Darius Vâlcov had obtained more goods, including three gold bars, weighing a total of three kilograms, a golden picture frame engraved Renoir, a Jean Cocteau painting and a painting engraved on wood signed Aurel Acasandrei, and the amounts of $ 90,000 and 1,323,850 lei. Investigators claim that money and goods had been stored in a safe.
