Prime Minister Victor Ponta said that the Government has decided not to reduce VAT on organic products and the traditional ones because of a media campaign which called it "idiotic".

This did not happen in December because politicians bent their ears to TV, Victor Ponta promised that the new Code will consider making such changes.

"In December, when we drafted the budget and the impact was very low, we wanted to reduce the VAT on traditional and organic products. It was an idiotic press campaign and we, instead of minding our own business, we said " let it go, we will reduce it when we have reduced all ". Therefore, I apologize! Next time, I will not mind all this kind of campaigns. I believe that traditional products, on the one hand, and the organic products, on the other hand, represent country brands and the impact on the budget is low, anyway, it does not amount to so much as the other products do, generally. I’ve been meaning to apologize, you know, I did feel sorry afterwards that we watched TV instead of watching over Romania’s interests", Ponta said at the PSD National Council.

The 9% VAT, instead of the 24%, will be introduced as of next year also for the access to sports events with the argument that sports is a social and economic phenomenon representing a high degree of interest from the population.
