Prime Minister Victor Ponta stressed the importance of the relationship between Romania and Turkey on Wednesday during a visit to Romania by Turkish President Recep Tayip Erdogan.
Ponta explained that this is a historic moment in the relationship between Romania and Turkey, even if the event was influenced by external events.
"I want to say from the outset that the relations are at completely and utterly distinctive moment, a special one in the politic, strategic collaboration here in this region, they are at a level that we have never had and which we want to further improve. I begin by thanking all Turkish companies coming to Romania, they create jobs and contribute to the economic development of Romania. "
Ponta added that Turkey is the main trading partner of Romania outside the EU and that joint projects that can bring real gains for both countries.
"Secondly, Turkey definitely is the main trading partner of Romania outside the EU and for the economic development of Romania the relations with Turkey, at institutions and private companies levels are essential. I am convinced that joint projects in the energy, agriculture, infrastructure, can bring a real gain for both countries and their peoples. "
Finely, Ponta conveyed a message of trust for the administration in Ankara.
"The economic side is really essential and I want to thank you and you should be confident that both the Romanian Government and the Ankara government have made endeavors to continue the partnership with Turkey, I want them to know that Romania is a friend, not just a very good partner. I want Romania to do in terms of the economy, infrastructure, the progress we have seen and you all see going to Turkey and especially in Istanbul. I would like Bucharest to develop in the same way. "
