Romania will not join the Schengen area this year or in 2016. On a visit to Jordan, Prime Minister Victor Ponta said there was no political consensus on Romania's accession to the Schengen area. The head of the Cabinet has emphasised that, hoping to eventually sign the Schengen agreement, this country has always enforced a strict visa regime.
