“We are not to ignore that the two defendants understood to proceed to obtaining substantial benefits from people interested in solving legal matters illicitly. Such a perspective on things where «justice» and, why not, related to the specificity of the case files constituting the purpose of the illicit approaches conducted, «liberty» have become a commodity that can be sold and bought, appears as inadmissible, because the social values affected by it are multiple, the most important in the judge’s opinion being the damage of the trust in the judiciary and the judicial authority under the circumstances where, by the alleged actions taken, the defendants accredited the idea that justice is at the discretion of their influences, ready to abdicate from the attributes and trust they should enjoy in a democratic society, says the judge's reasoning of the rights and freedoms issued by the Bucharest Court, which on June 20 ordered the remand for 30 days of the two defendants.
According to the document, all persons involved in this case demonstrated "bad attitudes", "incorrect and dangerous perception" of the justice and the organs involved.
"The actions the defendants allegedly committed, are likely to provoke a strong resonance in the society, therefore, the lack of a timely response of the judiciary and allowing defendants to be free during the trial procedures concerned, would induce serious disturbances of public discipline, respect of the law, stimulating collective fear that justice is not effective against particularly dangerous actions - thus creating a sense of acute insecurity, " the judge said in his motivation.
Moreover, the Bucharest Court of Appeal judges Friday the contestation filed by Mircea Basescu against the Court’s decision which led to his arrest being charged of having received 250,000 euros from Florin Anghel, Mediafax reports.
