Bucharest will host the first four matches of the European Football Championship 2020.

The announcement was made by UEFA president Michel Platini. If it qualifies for the European competition, Romania will play two of the group phase matches at home.

Bucharest was chosen among the 13 cities that will hold matches at Euro 2020 after UEFA chiefs reviewed the dossiers submitted by the candidate countries. If the Romanian soccer team qualifies for Euro 2020, the tricolors will play two group stage games on the National Arena.

The National Arena is again part of the international football elite after the Romanian capital hosted two years ago the Europa League final.

The stadium has got over 55,000 seats, 40 lodges, 94 access stairways and 40 fire escapes, seats for people with disabilities and first aid points.

The UEFA report also pints out the weaknesses of the infrastructure in Bucharest. The poor connection to Otopeni Airport , little accommodation options and the municipality’s limited experience in organizing major events.

As for the stadium, UEFA considers that there are too few lodges and parkings. Mayor Oprescu claims to have the solutions for all these problems.
