‘After receiving the specifications, the Romanian Football Federation has submitted today, May 20, the official candidacy to host the games in the final of Euro 2020 which, as you know, will be held in 13 cities across Europe, "the FRF statement said.
The application form was signed by Mircea Sandru, President of the Federation, and Adalbert Kassai, General Secretary of the FRF.
Romania has applied for the basic package, which includes matches from the group stage and the knockout rounds. If the FRF file is accepted, the matches will be played in Bucharest on the National Arena.
The UEFA decision that the 2020 edition of the European Championship be hosted by several countries was taken in early December.
The idea of a championship being hosted in 12 or 13 cities across Europe was launched on June 30, 2012 by Michel Platini, President of UEFA, the only one who opposed being Turkey who wanted to host the Euro 2020 and the Olympics in the same year
On April 26, the European Forum kicked off the nomination process for hosting matches in the 2020 European Championship, sending a letter to all national federations that they were invited to announce their candidacies and published the rules regarding the proceedings thereof.
Each country can apply with one or two cities, UEFA will make a selection and announce the host cities on September 20.
