Bulgarian PM Borisov: My wish is to have a motorway linking Bucharest, Sofia and Belgrade

Bulgarian PM Boyko Borisov on Friday told the joint press conference he had with his Romanian and Serbian counterparts that, with respect to the common infrastructure, he wished to see a motorway built to link Bucharest, Sofia and Belgrade.

He added that the three countries have a great opportunity to join hands in projects to the benefit of all Europe.

"We mainly discussed and agreed upon three things — and we are also ready to sign the documents — which guarantee a better future even for third countries. We owe Victor Ponta [the Romanian PM] the name of Craiova Group (...) In terms of infrastructure, my wish is to have a motorway linking Bucharest, Sofia and Belgrade," said the Bulgarian head of the Executive.

He also said he hoped the motorway to Belgrade would be finished in 2016.

"We are in a hurry right now to finish the Hemus motorway and also the new motorway to link Ruse and Bucharest, and also the Struma motorway heading to Sofia, via Vidin-Calafat, towards the Danube bridge, and this link will give us the opportunity to reach to the port in Solum, and from there further to the Bosfor, while in respect to Belgrade, it will have thus an exit to the Black Sea. I thank the Serbian PM for working intensely to achieve all this and also for the fact that we could have a speed up to 160 kilometres per hour on this motorway and with all the infrastructure projects that we have in mind, we could reach as further as to Beijing," said PM Boyko Borisov, quoted by Agerpres.
