President Traian Basescu said on Sunday evening that he did not anticipate an invasion of Russian forces in Ukraine unless they got to the point of "massive bloodshed," noting that the Ukrainian authorities approach to restore order in the Eastern part of the country was "only natural".

Basescu was asked about the situation in the Eastern part of Ukraine, where there were street movements going on and what could come out of that.

"It depends on how far it will go, of course, the existence of massive Russian Federation troops in the East and South-East border of Ukraine encourages what is happening in the Eastern Ukraine. Moreover, the emergence of the new unidentified soldier, but highly trained put a big question mark on the involvement of the Russian Federation in Ukraine, not only with the military troops at the border as a pressure means. Apparently there is a scenario of destabilization of the Eastern Ukraine, I do not anticipate an invasion unless it reaches the level of massive bloodshed. But sure, on the other hand, Kiev can no longer tolerate the situation, the interim president sent the Ukrainian police in the East to re-establish the rule of law, the state order, to remove insurgents from the state institutions, which is only natural", the president argued.

He recalled that the Russian Federation has intervened on its territory, in a situation similar to that of Ukraine, with all forces against the Chechen autonomous republic.
