Andreas LUBITZ, the copilot suspected of having deliberately crashed the Germanwings plane, suffered from exhaustion and depression in 2009, which is why he interrupted the commercial pilot license courses.
The 28 years old "suffered from burnout and depression in 2009," said the mother of a former high school classmate of the copilot cited by Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung.

Under the protection of anonymity, the woman explained that LUBITZ had told her daughter that he suffered from depression and exhaustion, which is why he interrupted courses to obtain the commercial pilot license in 2009, resuming them in 2012. The daughter of the woman last saw Andreas LUBITZ aged 28, in December 2014. "Then he seemed normal and said that he felt really good as a pilot," the woman said.

"I can only imagine he had something then. I do not believe he planned to crash the airplane, although it appears like a massacre ", the woman added.

The president of Lufthansa, Carsten Spohr, stated that Andreas Lubitz was fit to fly, adding that he had started the training to obtain the pilot license in 2008, but had interrupted them for a while in which time he served as flight attendant.

Andreas LUBITZ, German citizen working as a pilot for the Germanwings company since September 2013 and had 630 flight hours.
The French authorities suspect that Andreas LUBITZ intentionally crashed the plane, taking advantage of the captain’s brief absence from the cockpit to tilt the aircraft on a path for collapse.
