The relationship between Romania and UK discussed by senator Petru Filip and Ambassador Paul Brummell

Senator Peter Filip, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee had talks on Tuesday with Paul Brummell, Ambassador of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Bucharest, with whom he discussed the Romanian-British cooperation in foreign policy and the relations between the two states inside the EU and within the bilateral Strategic Partnership, Agerpres informs.

According to a press release sent to Agerpres by the Senate, Petru Filip presented the objectives and current foreign policy goals of Romania, with a focus on the Eastern Neighborhood, Western Balkans and the Middle East, stressing the importance of the collaboration with the UK both bilaterally and within the EU to achieve those goals.

The British Ambassador underlined, according to the same source, the great importance UK gives to its relations with Romania, a country with which it has a very good cooperation in the political, economic and cultural areas.

The British diplomat also highlighted the important and valuable contribution the Romanian community in the UK brings to his country.
Moreover, the ambassador agreed with the idea to continue and develop the parliamentary component of the bilateral relations, considering it very useful in the current international and European framework and ensured the UK’s support for Romania's accession to the Schengen area, even if his country is not member thereof.
