The stable population of Romania, meaning people who have their regular residence in Romania, is 19.043.767, announced Monday the National Statistics Institute (NSI) president, Vergil Voineagu, according to Mediafax press agency. The announcement comes after the preliminary results of the census have been validated. Next, the results will be presented to the Government in its first meeting.

The members of the Central Commission for People and Household Census approved, Monday, a series of materials regarding the development of the census and validated the preliminary results.

According to the NSI president, there can be changes in the final results of the census, which will be announced during the second term of 2013.

Voineagu explained that INS had not managed to review 2,8% of the households, respectively around one million persons. He mentioned that in this case they would try to recuperate data by engaging other authorized institutions.

Internal Affairs minister Mircea Duşa had specified that, once the preliminary results were validated, the Constitutional Court of Romania (CCR) judges would have a refference figure, but emphasized that the electoral lists and the census statistics were not linked in any way whatsoever.

The temporary data transmited by the NSI on February, 2nd, indicated that the stable population of Romania was 19.042.936, 910.264 persons were abroad for a long period of time, and 301.666 persons are temporarily present in Romania.
