Romania's former president, Traian Basescu was left without his Moldovan citizenship, after he appealed a previous decision of removal.

The decision was taken four hours after the court had adjourned the case for November 14. The reason was that the SCM "needs time" to study the case. Within a few hours of the postponement decision, the magistrates decided to dismiss Trăian Băsescu's appeal and to maintain the Court's previous decision.

The Basescu spouses were granted the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova in the summer of 2016. The first act signed by President Igor Dodon, who took over the presidency at the end of the same year, was the withdrawal of Traian Băsescu's Moldovan citizenship, but not the one of his wife.

The former president of Romania attacked the court decision, demanding the act to be annuled.
