“Not only is he infringing but now he is calling for a constitutional breach. (...) Not only is it completely outside the law and of the Constitution for a political party to be making prosecutors appointments suggestions themselves, but in general, Mr. Traian Băsescu is, nor as president and all the less as an individual, in no capacity to be giving deadlines to the Parliament, let alone to the parties. It is a letter that, at least to me, he wrote in vain, I assume I was not the intended recipient anyway. It is a new gesture of petty politics that is just another one of these thousands of gestures that make up Mr. Basescu’s term in the office – nothing serious, nothing sustainable, nothing beneficial, only populist gestures, tricks and at best electoral victories as they used to be for him. I am not taking them into account (the deadlines) because he is no capacity to do that”, Antonescu stated, on Realitatea TV station, according to Agerpress.
President Traian Basescu sent Monday a letter to the chairmen of the Senate and Chamber of Deputies, Crin Antonescu and Valeriu Zgonea and to the Prime Minister Victor Ponta whereby he reiterated his proposal to establish a partnership with the Parliament and the Government on achieving three objectives: an updated and strengthen rule of law, joining the Euro zone and the Schengen accession.
