“I will continue to protect the Judiciary, whether we refer to the Prosecution offices or the courts from political interference, of course, those that I am aware of. I hope the favorable trend will continue in the Prosecution offices, the DIICOT, the DNA. The nominations submitted by the Prime Minister do not give me any reasons to believe that changes may occur in the ascending trend to settle justice issues”, Traian Basescu stated.
Asked what he thought about Ponta’s nominations, Basescu replied, "I think he found out that it was good. A prosecutor general who was well appreciated during her time in office I believe is a valid option. I think he appreciated Kovesi’s work."
"I chose the option to have Morar as Prosecutor General and Kovesi at the DNA. My option was well known, I want you to be convinced it has nothing to do with the influence on a particular person, but with my appreciation for their professional results" Traian Basescu added.
Asked to comment on Crin Antonescu’s allegations, that the appointment of the chief prosecutors was the outcome of political bartering, Basescu said: "You asked your question to the President of Romania. I am not an analyst, nor a commentator, each one with his stand."
