Premier Victor Ponta stated, Sunday night, that he did not think that a new decision to impeach president Bsasescu could be taken, since it would involve too big a risk for the country.
“Today, when you are asking me, I do not think that we could take such a decision and such a risk for the country”, Ponta stated, Sunday night, during a TV show.
Victor Ponta added that, although he wished that Traian Băsescu were no longer president, “Romania should avoid a crisis of the same extent in the future”.
Prime minister emphasized though that in 2013 an amendment to the Constitution should be carried out, with the support of the opposition so that the system would not allow any longer the accumulation of such big institutional powers in a single man’s hand.
Ponta also expressed his opinion that the Constitution amendment should provide, among others, that the heads of the intelligence services be appointed by the Parliament or that the head of the Anticorruption Department and the General Prosecutor be appointed by the Superior Council of Magistracy.
