Premier Victor Ponta announced that president Traian Băsescu would attend the European Council meeting in November. Victor Ponta claimed that during the discussions the possibility of both of them attending came up, but he did not agree to this option as confusions could be generated.

From the Romanian Government’s point of view the recent proposal forwarded by president Van Rompuy is unacceptable and I have presented the president this firm opposition and a nonnegotiable one of Romania,
calling down on Romania’s veto right, if necessary.
