PM Grindeanu: Justice Minister assured me he didn't discuss with US Ambassador about MP and DNA heads' evaluation

Prime Minister Sorin Grindeanu on Thursday said that Justice Minister Tudorel Toader assured him that he hadn't discussed with the US Ambassador to Romania, Hans Klemm, about the evaluation of the heads of the Public Ministry and the National Anticorruption Directorate (DNA).

Asked on Romania TV private television broadcaster why the Justice Minister postponed the presentation of the evaluation of the heads of the Public Ministry and the DNA by 48 hours, PM Grindeanu said: "Because he paid, as far as I can remember, a two-day visit to Brussels."

"It has nothing to do with it and I have even asked (...). I asked the minister this question in the meeting yesterday afternoon, if this evaluation has been discussed and if there has been a dialogue between the minister and the ambassador. The minister assured me that there hasn't been one (...). I believe the minister (...). He is a man who gained his respect in this area, in this field, that of justice," Grindeanu also said.

Justice Minister Tudorel Toader said on Wednesday that he conducted the evaluation of the heads of the Public Ministry and the DNA "personally" and "without any pressure or interference" from anyone foreign to the Justice Ministry.

At the same time, the Justice Minister said that, at the moment, it is inopportune to trigger the procedure of revoking the prosecutor general and the DNA prosecutor-in-chief.

"In this context, evaluating all constitutionality, legality, opportuneness factors (...) I considered that, at the moment, it is inopportune to trigger the procedure of revoking the prosecutor general and the DNA prosecutor-in-chief," Toader also told a press conference.
