Registrations of new cars in Romania fell by 17.5% compared to the same period of October last year, down to around 5,600 units, the steepest contraction in Central and Eastern Europe and the worst development in the EU except for Cyprus, Mediafax reports.

The number of new car registrations in Romania dropped from about 6800 down to 5600 units in October.

The only European market registering a steeper decline was Cyprus, where deliveries of cars fell by 34.1% in October, from 725 to 524 units.
    
In the first 10 months of the year, the Romanian market decreased by 16.5%, from 55,900 to 46,700 units, the only countries where steeper declines were recorded were Cyprus (-38.5% to 5,900 units) and the Netherlands (- 25.4% , down to 338 600 cars).

Deliveries at EU fell by 3.1% from the beginning of this year, from 10,327,000 to 10,000,000 million units.

In the brands top, Dacia recorded in October one of the strongest growth in the EU. The Dacia car registrations in the EU increased by 16.8% in October, from 21,000 up to 24,500 units.

The Renault brand also saw a strong recovery with growth of 14.1%, from 63,600 to 72,600 units. The deliveries of Renault cars in the EU increased by 14.8% in October, from 84,600 up to 97,200 units.    

The    Czech manufacturer Skoda, controlled by the German Volkswagen Group has recorded an increase of 23.7% from 36,700 to 45,400 units. 

Volkswagen ranks first among the top manufacturers in Europe, with 258,000 cars delivered in October, up by 5.8%, followed by PSA Peugeot Citroen, with 117,000 units (-0.9%), Renault, General Motors, Ford, BMW, Fiat, Daimler, Toyota, or Nissan alliance partner of Renault.

Germany, Europe's biggest economy, registered a 2.3% increase in the number of new car registrations in October , that is 265,400 units.

Spain recorded the strongest growth among the developed markets by 34.4% up to 60,300 units. In France, deliveries rose by 2.6% to 166,500, while in Italy they decreased by 5.6% down to 110,800.
