Significant increases in registrations, but slower than in Romania, were recorded in Greece, 42.3%, 7459 cars and in Portugal, 36.5% , 13,773 vehicles, a statement by the European Automobile Manufacturers Association says (ACEA). Romania was in April one of the few countries with declining sales.
The EU car market rose by 4.5%, to 1.09 million cars, with May being the ninth month of positive development.
Italy is one of the major European declining markets in May by 3.8%. All other major markets contributed to the expansion of sales in the EU, with an advance of 0.3% in France, 5.2% in Germany, 7.7% in Britain and 16.9% in Spain.
Car sales in Romania increased in the first five months by 18%, up to 24 278 units, while the EU market rose by 6.9%, up to 5.43 million
In the first five months of the year, all the major European markets have been growing by 3% in France, 3.2% in Italy, 3.4% in Germany, 11.6% in the UK and 16.3% in Spain .
Among brands, Dacia recorded an increase in car registrations by 25% , up to 30 848 units. Only three brands had stronger growth. The Jeep sales have doubled to 2,967 cars, the Mitsubishi increased by 38.3% to 7,625 cars, while the Lexus rose by 36.6%, to 2,126 units.
French group Renault brand sales under the same name, which also owns Dacia increased by 16.2% to 70,486 units.
In January-May, Dacia cars registrations rose 37% , up to 155 053 cars, being surpassed only by the Jeep registration rate of 39%, up to 12,140 cars.
Renault has advanced during this period by 12.3%, up to 358,562 units.
